About Aithsvoe

The Aithsvoe Pier lies on the west side of Aithsvoe, in Cunningsburgh, and was built over fifty years ago. Since its construction it has been extended and upgraded on several occasions, these works having been achieved mainly by a significant voluntary labour contribution from the local community.

In recent years extreme weather conditions have resulted in the pier experiencing significant storm damage. The adverse weather resulted in repairs being needed to the breakwater and pier on two separate occasions. Further heavy weather and high tides have resulted in a large crack opening up on the pier deck.

The pier currently supports a number of small commercial boats that regularly land fish and shellfish. Also, pleasure craft, other voluntary groups and the local community regularly use the pier.

The voluntary Aithsvoe Pier Trust have successfully applied for funding to reinforce the structure in a concrete skin, at the same time providing new ladders, mooring rings and rubber fenders, as well as improving the slipway.
